On Friday 13th August 2004, just two months short of its 100th anniversary, Ramsgate Library was devastated by a fire.
Apart from the loss of the books, computers and other facilities offered by the library, the museum was also destroyed. This housed many historical artefacts of our town's history, which included the town seal, paintings of local notables and also the Baronial robes worn by a previous Mayor.
After 5 years of hard work the library was fully restored and had its official opening on 20th February 2009, attended by Brenda Blethin OBE.
A stained glass window was created by John Corley ACR, using designs created by local school children taking part in a design competition.
