Ramsgate Pavilion?

Postby Effingham Street » Mon Oct 18, 2010 5:40 pm

Hi, I was just wondering if anybody knew anything interesting about the Pavilion and its renovation?
I read an article, last year, saying that it may be turned into a market, restaurants and wedding venue; is that still happening? :?

Here is the article...

Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to use this beautiful building!

Ramsgate (Heritage Regeneration) Trust Ltd, recently formed with the assistance of the Ramsgate Society is actively looking at community uses for the building. Other private schemes for the building seem to have stalled at present.

If you have a keen interest in the building, please support the Trust and help to get this building back into use for the community, Joining the Trust can be arranged by using the "contact us" section of this website.

An update from Robert Holden

The lease is up for sale.

What is suggested accords with The Ramsgate Society's vision for this particular building, and which forms part of our visionary submission to Thanet District Council, when we found that their Structure Plan left Ramsgate out completely, concentrating almost solely on Margate. We (Ken Read and myself) have surveyed the building and drawn up a draught idea not to dissimilar from what is suggested. This was about a year ago. Perhaps the prospective developers have further develped our vision.
If you're not already, please consider joining the society... It costs less than £10 for a whole year !

The Pavilion requires a huge amount of investment in order to make it viable until the Lease expires in about thirty years.

I know one or two local worthies trying to put together a scheme but in the current financial climate I fear a national company will snap up the Lease and put something thoughtless in place to turn a few quid.....

It would be a good idea to engage with TDC (who have to approve an assignee) and possibly develop a 'brief'.

The Pavilion is an ideal place to create and 'arts' focus as well as providing other facilities. Unfortunately, if you look around yourself in the middle of Ramsgate most of the time, you are not surrounded by people who would make good use of an 'arts' facility....... X-Box, Playstation, cheap lager and a display centred on a whole new sub-genre 'Vacant Expressionism'..... now that could work :)

How about our own Art Gallery, :| .. could call it the Van Gough contempery,. .and put the Ramsgate wall in there, when it use has been finished-who thinks this is worth-while,.. the place unfortunatly to big for other uses,.. TDC, may want to extend its carpark, so they get more money
