This project is being promoted by us - the civic society for the town of Ramsgate.  Founded in 1964, with over 700 members, it is affiliated to Civic Voice the national body for Civic Societies in England and is a registered charity.

The Clock House is the most important historic building in the Ramsgate Royal Harbour. It is Listed Grade 2* by Historic England and houses the Ramsgate Maritime Museum Collection.  Both the building and collection have been neglected for over 30 years, but properly restored and managed could provide a major boost to the economic regeneration of Ramsgate.

The Clock House is owned by Thanet District Council and is currently leased to The Steam Museum Trust until 31st Jan 2037. Under this proposal the existing lease would be assigned to a new trust, The Ramsgate Clock House Heritage Trust, which has been set up by the Ramsgate Society to enable the project to be implemented.

Over the last several months the Executive Committee has been considering the current subscription rate of £8 per annum (single) and £12 per annum (joint). It has become clear that as the Society has become more active our basic running costs have increased to a point where we need to increase our subscription rates if we are to remain financially sound.

At the monthly executive committee meetings our treasurer provides a report of income and expenditure during the month and reports this against the budget for the year. By doing this we are able to maintain a close eye on our finances. As a result of this the Executive Committee, at a meeting on 2nd February 2017, decided to increase the subscription from 1st April 2017 to £12 (single) and £18 (joint).

We're campaiging to help fund the ongoing maintenance of the Ramsgate Victorian shelters. We receive no public money to maintain them, rely on fund raising and have an ongoing liability to maintain them.  Costs are incurred on repairing broken windows, set up and monitoring of CCTV cameras and cleaning and repairing damage. They are a major asset to the town and we do our best with limited funds to keep them in good condition.
