WE NEED YOUR HELP... says Ken Read
You can visualise by comparing the photographs below, and see that the beauty of Ramsgate has somewhat tarnished over the 20th century years. ![]() Now in the 21st century, with a credit crunch and global recession, it is unlikely that official funds will be available in the foreseeable future to address the decline. The Ramsgate Society is backing an initiative to start renovating historical and architectural artefacts in the town using volunteer labour and goodwill of the town's inhabitants. The project will start small but if successful it is hoped that larger and more ambitious projects can be considered. In Phase 1 of the project we are considering the promenade shelters, seafront benches, a scheme for a town trail, bollard painting and renovation of a cast pillar at the entrance to the east harbour wall. How far we get with renovating these items depends on you. WE NEED YOUR HELP !!!. It is obvious that there is considerable goodwill in the town, which if channelled in the right direction, could transform the town into the best seaside resort in the South East of England. You do not have to be a builder or expert at DIY to contribute to this scheme, there is need for sponsors, donations, fundraisers, back room organisers, logistics and administrative back up etc, all of which play a part in achieving our goals. ![]() Of course if you have competent DIY skills, or if you are a tradesman, we will be looking for enthusiastic volunteers to work at the sharp end of things. The renovation of the benches and shelters will require roofers, carpenters, joiners, sand blasters, metalworkers and decorators etc, together with transport, storage, materials and money. You will see from the front cover that the task is big but the rewards will be greater. There are nine of this style shelter from the east to the west end of the promenade; we intend to restore them back to their former glory but with consideration of the changed nature of society, they will be graffiti and vandal-resistant as far as is possible. ![]() Please help this worthy cause - it is the best hope for a renewed Ramsgate and if you are a member of another society or association with an interest in Ramsgate please urge your organisation to encourage and support this project. WITH YOUR HELP WE CAN MAKE RAMSGATE A BRIGHTER STAR. To obtain more information or to offer your help please e-mail Ken Read at: renovateramsgate@googlemail.com |
