Have you seen the van Gogh bust in Spencer Square and wondered how it got there?
In 2018 sculptor and artist Anthony Padgett had been working on a project called A Year with Vincent and contacted our society chairman to talk about the work he had been doing.
The output from the project were busts created by Padgett and were being donated to sites that were significant to the life of van Gogh, of which Ramsgate was one. So the question was "Would the Ramsgate Society be interested in creating a permanent memorial to van Gogh and finding a site for one of the busts?"

The RSP proposal to reopen the former Manston Airport as a 24/7 International cargo hub has complied with the preliminary procedures to enable it to go forward to an Examination in Public. This does not imply that there is some form of official approval for the substance of the proposal,  for which there is not, but it does give local residents the opportunity to make their concerns known to the Planning Inspectorate at the Public Inquiry.

Persons or organisations wishing to make their views known have until 8 October to register their interest with The Planning Inspectorate. (PINS.)

The Ramsgate Society is intending to register and will do so citing a number of key reasons why we are opposed to RSP’s proposals.  These will centre around the potentially disastrous impact that 24/7 operations at the airport will have on the historic fabric of the town and the quality of life for its residents.

On Friday 15th February the Society submitted its Statement to the Examining Panel.
The Statement is in two parts: Part A: Need, Viability and Socio Economic Benefits and Part B: Impact on Ramsgate and the Local Plan
The Society's Statement can be found below. The Examination in Public is scheduled to continue until 9th July 2019 with a decision from The Secretary of State later in the year.
